Hangool Exhibition

February 16, 2023.

Fankeenna pays homage to the Somali Hangool. From 16-19 February, we celebrate the historic and cultural significance of this unique object.

Our tribute to the Hangool showcases 15 creative reinterpretations of the object, each one infused with a contemporary sensibility that brings it to life in new and exciting ways. Through these interpretations, we hope to honor the heritage of the Somali people while also reviving Somali art and creativity.

The Hangool is traditionally used by Somali nomads for added stability and to keep predators away from livestock. It also represents the ingenuity, resourcefulness, and resilience of the Somali people, and has been an integral part of Somali culture and architecture for generations.

We invite you to explore our exhibition and experience the wonder and beauty of the Hangool for yourself. Whether you are a fan of traditional Somali culture or a lover of contemporary art, there is something here for everyone.

Join us on this journey of discovery and celebration, and let the Hangool be your guide.
